Blockchain

A public, append-only ledger that records transactions in blocks, with each block cryptographically linked to the one before it to form a chain. In Bitcoin, thousands of independent nodes keep copies of it and miners add new blocks through Proof-of-Work, so no single party controls the record. Changing past transactions would mean redoing the work for every block that came after, which makes the history practically immutable.
